For TA’AKTANA, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Labuan Bajo, we produced a 3 minute 32 second documentary film about CACI, a traditional whip fighting dance from Manggarai, Flores.
CACI is not just a performance. It is ritual. It is identity. It is pride. Two men enter a circle, armed with whip and shield, dressed in traditional costume, accompanied by music and chants. They fight, but it is not about anger.
It is about honor, celebration, and heritage passed down through generations.
Ta’aktana, a luxury resort under The Luxury Collection, stands in Labuan Bajo surrounded by raw landscape, ocean views, and strong local culture. The intention of this documentary was to connect the soul of the land with the experience of staying at the resort. Not to commercialize the tradition, but to respect and showcase its meaning.
Over three days of shooting, we followed the preparation, the details of costume, the rhythm of the music, and the intensity inside the fighting circle. Close ups of expressions. Wide shots of the arena. Texture of the whip. Movement of the shield. Every detail matters.
CACI represents courage and discipline. Ta’aktana represents refined hospitality rooted in local culture. The film bridges both worlds in a cinematic and respectful way.
The final documentary delivers not just visuals, but atmosphere. When people watch it, they do not only see a traditional fight. They feel the heartbeat of Labuan Bajo.
